Star Wars Original Trilogy DVD: September 2004

Ain't It Cool got word that the original Star Wars trilogy will be released on DVD in September of 2004. W00t! My VHS tapes are beginning to show their age, especially now that my kids like watching the movies. Just a warning: that page also contains some minor spoilers for Episode III. Thanks Slashdot.

New Linux.Ars

Ars Technica updated their Linux.Ars page with all kinds of penguin-related goodies. They take a look at Fedora (the new Red Hat for normal folks) and the BSDs as well as various process management tools. Good stuff as always.

Attempt to Back Door Linux

Someone apparently attempted to put a back door on the Linux kernel. The hacked change was made to the CVS version, not Linus' BitKeeper version. The problem was detected within 24 hours and fixed before it ever entered the real world. While it is troubling to note that someone pulled this, it is comforting to note that the mechanisms to prevent this sort of thing worked. Thanks Linux Today.

DOOM3 Site Live

id's DOOM3 site has gone live, although there is very little on there now other than a little flash animation. The teases. Thanks Blue's News.

MS Offers Bounty on Virus Authors

Microsoft announced that it is offering a quarter-million dollar bounty on the authors of the SoBig virus and MSBlast worm. While I wouldn't mind seeing both of those guys brisky beaten with all kinds of gardening implements, I have to wonder if this is the best approach. Maybe dropping half a million on programmers who can write secure code might be a better option. Of course, MS has plenty of spare cash, so it may be cheaper to stay in the bounty hunting business. Thanks Blue's News.

In a totally unrelated note, Blue linked to today's FoxTrot especially for all of us webmasters out there. Personally, I believe that Jason would have used CSS.
