Changing Distros

Well, I finally got fed up with Mozilla and Mandrake 9.1 not playing nicely together. After setting up Slackware 9 on my other box as a "test" system, I felt comfortable bringing my main box over. I think I've got most of the kinks worked out (having the other box already set up allowed me to take care of some of the kinks ahead of time). Slack is J.t.'s favorite distro, we'll see if it will become mine too.

Before I upgraded, I debated whether or not to back up my HTML and word processing files. I decided to go ahead and do it. It's a good thing I did. After I had Slack installed, I mistakenly deleted my "files" directory instead of the "fonts" one (thanks to a typo and bash's tab-autocomplete function). If I wouldn't have backed up, I would have lost a couple months of work. Good thing I was smart enough to save myself from my own stupidity.

This is the lesson for today: Remember, kids, rm -rf is a very powerful command.
