Well, it appears that my beloved Detroit Red Wings are really going for broke this year. They just signed Brett Hull to a two year contract. This signing will push their payroll to almost $60 million--a huge amount by NHL standards. It looks like the Wings braintrust is planning on making big-time runs at the Cup this year and the next, and after that to go into a rebuilding phase. Let's go Wings!
