MS Uses Open Source

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft is making use of open-source software. Some Hotmail functions are still using FreeBSD servers, and *BSD code is being used in Windows' TCP stack. This is perfectly legal, given the BSD license. Which pretty much proves that MS's main gripe with the GPL is that it doesn't allow them to steal code like the BSD license does. Thanks Slashdot.

J.t.Qbe comments: Technically Microsoft isn't stealing the BSD source, because the BSD license permits anyone to use the code--even Microsoft. This does make M$ hypocritical, though: it paints all open source software as evil, while itself using BSD software to make money. Hmmm, Microsoft being hypocritical--who'd'a guessed that'd ever happen?
