Flash Player 9 Beta 2 So Far

Well, color me impressed. I've been messing with the Flash Player 9 Beta 2 for Linux (story) quite a bit. By this time with beta 1 I was getting quite a few lock-ups or crashes. I haven't had a single one yet even with the Flashblock extension completely disabled in Firefox. The ESPN Motion player is still missing a little functionality, but other than that it's been great. I haven't tested that in Windows to see if it's ESPN-specific or Linux-specific. Kudos to the Flash team!

NFL Week #11 Final and Week #12

Blech. We were both 7-9 this week. That makes me 90-69 (.566) while she is 98-61 (.616). And, because I can't quit now (heavens knows why), here are my picks for this weekend's games, starting with the debacle in Detroit tomorrow. Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs, Ravens, Bengals, 49ers, Vikings, Jets, Saints, Panthers, Jaguars, Chargers, Giants, Patriots, Colts, Seahawks.

The Master comments: This week's differences: Broncos, Cardinals, Rams. We did a coin toss too, just to see if the law of averages has a shot at it this year. We'll let you know.

Flash Player 9 Beta 2 for Linux

Adobe has released a second beta version of Flash Player 9 for Linux. This release addresses some of the audio-related problems and crashes from the first beta. You can also check out the release notes for all the changes. I've managed to play a couple of videos on ESPN Motion without it locking up on me. Right there, that's a big improvement over beta 1. I'll keep testing.

Update! I played the first period of a Red Wings' game on Google Video while doing a bunch of other stuff. Everything worked great. In general it ate up only 36% of my Athlon XP 1800+ to play the video while downloading the content at about 2Mbps. Impressive.
