SiN Episodes: Emergence First Impressions

I played through the first couple levels of Emergence tonight. For starters, when they say make sure your drivers are up-to-date, they are NOT kidding. I needed to update both my Audigy drivers and the nVidia drivers. Hopefully they haven't screwed up anything else.

The game? Rocking so far. I really enjoyed Sin 1, so this is a refreshing game for me. Lots of object interactivity, plenty of eye candy, and the sound is good too. I think this one is much more atmospheric than Half-Life 2 as well. Good stuff.

PS3 Pricing and Controller

IGN (amongst others) got news on the cost of the PS3 and the PS3's newly designed controller. The PS3 will come in two versions: one with a 20G hard drive for $499 and one with a 60G hard drive for $599. There is some speculation that other features may be missing from the 20G version. The controller looks much like the PS2 controller, except it can also sense the pitch, roll, and yaw of the controller, so you can control things by spinning or shaking the controller itself. It does not have a rumble feature.

That's pretty pricy for a console, but when you consider what a high-end video card costs these days . . . Naturally I will be waiting until at least the first price drop so that a) they will be cheaper, and b) the initial bugs will be worked out.

Bleh

I've been playing with content management systems for the last couple of days. These things are totally the bomb, and they totally suck, all at the same time. Either they're insanely flexible, but inpenetrable to manage, or simple to manage but useless. I've got to put together a system that allows users to maintain an intranet site, but they don't have HTML background or page editing experience. This is going to totally suck.

While I'm complaining, what is it with Amazon's every 3rd page loads properly web site? I would think returning some actual content past the "you can get free shipping if you spend a million dollars" header might actually result in some sales. Novel concept, that.
