Bitboys Oy Is No More -- 1:00 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

It is with a tear in my eye that I announce that Bitboys Oy has been bought out by ATI. Bitboys Oy is the reigning king of hardware press releases and vaporware. Despite never actually producing any hardware, ATI bought them out for a cool €35.2 million. Some of that amount is contingent on certain unstated goals being reached. It seems that the main thing that ATI gets out of this is a partnership with Nokia for the cellphone market. RIP Bitboys.

ODF Accepted as an ISO Standard -- 10:42 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

It's pretty straightforward: OpenDocument format (ODF) was accepted as an ISO standard. What this means is that ODF won't just be a standard among free software fans, but it is an official ISO standard. That should make it easier for acceptance among government agencies, etc. Microsoft's OpenXML (which many are saying is a contradiction in terms) is up for ISO approval soon too. Thanks Slashdot.

Carmack on Developing for Cellphones -- 9:48 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Gamasutra caught up with id's John Carmack to discuss game development for cellphones and how it differs from traditional PC/console development. I've never had a phone with sufficient power to play any interesting games. I've got my PDA for that :) Thanks to J for the link.

Carmack on MegaTexture -- 8:17 pm CST, Update by The Master

Gamer Within did an interview with John Carmack on the MegaTexture technology used in the upcoming Quake Wars from Splash Damage. Good looking outdoor scenes here. I hope they can deliver the kind of large scale game play the UT2K games excelled at.
