Cedega 4.2 to Support Half-Life 2

Transgaming issued a press release (which I could only find on Linux Games, not on Transgaming's site), stating that Cedega 4.2 will support Half-Life 2. Cedega 4.2 is scheduled to be released on December 7. I think I'll wait for a few folks to try this out first before I give it a spin. I'm well over the minimum spec of a 1.2Ghz processor, 256M RAM, and a DX7 video card, but it remains to be seen how well Half-Life 2 will scale, especially with any overhead from Cedega. We shall see.

In a related story, AnandTech posted some benchmarks of Half-Life 2 using the latest and greatest hardware. Basically, any current generation video card will run the game extremely well. They plan to follow-up with older cards soon. They warn that the GeForce FX series is basically unplayable in the game with the DX9 renderer. I assume that means that there is a DX8 renderer that will work better.

Winamp: Not Quite Dead

There is a post on the Winamp site refuting the story that Winamp/Nullsoft is no more. While the show will go on, the fact remains that the founding members of Nullsoft are all gone. We'll see what the future holds.

The Master comments: That news article appears to have been pulled from the article index (the article itself appears to still be available). For what it's worth . . .

Updated DOOM3 SDK

id's Timothee Besset updated his .plan with word that there is an updated version of the DOOM3 SDK available for download. A Linux version of the SDK is also available.

In a related story, there is a Capture the Flag mod in the works for DOOM3 which will actually incorporate all the Quake III: Team Arena gametypes: CTF, Harvester, Overload, and One-Flag CTF.

Bleh

I finally had a chance to install and play the Doom 3 demo last night. I did this at 11:30 pm, in a pitch black room. Maybe that's why every time the lights went out in a level it felt incredibly creepy. My only complaint is I swear I'm hearing sound snippets from Half-Life in some of the levels. I might just be imagining it. Also, running out of shotgun ammo while pinned in a corner really sucks. I will need to play this again tonight. Thankfully Santa already knows I want this one under the Christmas tree :-)

Half-Life 2 Available

That's right, kids. Your Half-Life fix is now available for purchase. It should be on the shelves, and it is also available via Steam. Go forth and lose hours of your lives! :-)

A.T. Hun comments: And, ladies and gentlemen, we have our first major bug! Hurrah! Oh, and the authentication servers are borked too. Yay for mandatory online registration!
