Mozilla 0.9.8 Released

Version 0.9.8 of the open-source Mozilla web-browsing suite has been released. You can check out the release notes here. I plan on downloading and installing this bad-boy as soon as I get the "basics" up and running again on my new box.

w00t!

I'm typing this from my new Athlon 1800+ box! There's obviously a few bugs to work out yet, but it's at least going. I had some "issues" last night, but a BIOS upgrade seems to have nipped those in the bud. The worst was that everytime I tried to reboot, my system would shut all the way down for about three seconds then start up again. I was afraid I was going to kill my hard drive. Now it's just a matter of updating everything. Erp.

The Master comments: Heh-I had a rapid power cycling issue when I built Eeyore's old machine out. Blew the power supply sky high. Smoke and sparks and everything. That was fun. NOT.

Pondering the Imponderable

Congratulations to the New England Patriots for proving most everyone wrong and winning the Super Bowl, led by Michigan alumnus Tom Brady. My Lions haven't won a championship since 1957--11 years before I was born, for those of you keeping score at home. If the Pats won, do I have a chance of seeing my Lions win someday?

Nah.

Review: relnev's Quake 2 Port, Updated

I updated my review of relnev's Quake 2 port today. For some reason I cannot fully explain, saved games work fine now. I didn't change a thing. I wish I had a better explanation, but I don't. I'm just glad it works now.

HP Linux Drivers Totally Free

Hewlett-Packard has updated the license for the open-source drivers for their printers. They are no longer required to be used with HP products only. The drivers are released under the BSD license, meaning that anyone can take the code and do anything they want with it, as long as no one claims their modifications are endorsed by HP. Cool stuff.

FWIW, I'm using the 1.0.2 version of the drivers with my Deskjet 810c. I'm quite pleased with them. Red Hat 7.2's version of Ghostscript comes with support for these drivers built-in. Thanks Linux Today.
