NFL Week #4-5 Final and Week #6

I know it's been awhile since I updated the totals. Last week we were both a perfect 14-0. The week before, she beat me by two, 11-3 to 9-5. Thus far she is thoroughly trouncing me, 57-17 (.770) to 50-24 (.676). I can't imagine she can keep this clip up forever. Anyway, here's this week's picks: Bengals, Falcons, Redskins, Cowboys, Ravens, Bills, Seahawks, Eagles, Jets, Steelers, Chargers, Broncos, Bears. There's a couple I'm not very sure on. I'm sure those are the ones she'll pick and she'll be right.

The Master comments: This week's differences: Lions, Rams, Chiefs. I'm not so sure about that Lions pick, but the way she's going right now I may need to take that back :-)

SWEEP!

The Tigers win the pennant! The Tigers win the pennant! Magglio Ordoñez's three-run jack put my beloved Bengals in the World Series for the first time since my sophomore year in high school. My favorite Tiger, Plácido Polanco, was named ALCS MVP. It was a long, ugly trudge through the 90s for us die-hards, but this season makes it all worthwhile. Four more to go and home field advantage!

The Man Sticks It to The Man

I love these sorts of stories. Wal-Mart is after the RIAA. Why? Because like most people they think that music CDs are too expensive. They want to be able to sell them at $10 and still make a profit. Wal-Mart can throw its weight around because it accounts for nearly 20% of big-label music sales. All those of you not shedding a tear for the RIAA, raise your hand. I thought so.

Greetings, Triskaidekaphobes!

Well today is just a triskaidekaphobe's delight. Besides being Friday the 13th (boo!), if you add up the numbers in 10/13/2006 you get 13 (1+1+3+2+6=13). That apparently hasn't happened since January 13, 1520. Yes, somebody took the time to figure that out. Thankfully you just have a few more fours of hiding in the cupboards until Saturday the 14th is safely here.

Something must be in the air, since my Detroit Tigers are one win away from the World Series.

Update! I've since been told that this is incorrect. The last Friday the 13th that added up to 13 actually occurred this year: January 13, 2006.

Why Apple is Winning

I've been reading a series of articles on Roughly Drafted discussing why Apple has suceeded in the music player market, while Microsoft has been failing. This series is excellent reading, if only to discuss what Microsoft has done (or not done) to "win" in the PC industry.

Bleh

I got my Linux server completely running for the first time last night. I had to do a lot of messing around, but I was finally able to SSH, VNC and use Samba to get our old Quakeworld game server stuff installed.

We toyed with the server for a couple of hours last night, finally going to bed around 1 am. Ziggurat Vertigo is just as fun as I remember it :-) Hey A.T. Up for a couple rounds this weekend?
