Ars's Take on ALP

Ars Technica's Ryan Paul has posted his take on the Access Linux Platform which will serve as the newest PalmOS. Given how much Linux users enjoy hacking any bit of hardware they can get their hands on, PalmSource may be on to a winner here. Of course, we won't really know anything until the SDK is out . . .

RIAA Declares iPod use Illegal

RIAA Says Ripping CDs to Your iPod is NOT Fair Use. BS. I think the only way we're going to get through to these "people" is to declare their product untouchable for one full quarter. When they need to report $0 earned to their shareholders, then maybe they'll listen to us stupid customers for a change.

A.T. Hun comments: I love the argument against backups too: "Why backup when new copies are so cheap?" Translated: "Why backup when you could just give us more money?" Nice business model. Treat your customers with contempt and then demand new laws be passed when you suddenly lose money.

The Master comments: Disney has been running the same business for years--they have someone in Congress get an extension for copyright as soon as Mickey's expiration comes near. Eventually copyright will be forever, as long as Disney has their way.
