NFL Final Results

Much like my Lions, I ended the NFL picking season on an utterly mediocre note. I was 8-8 whilst Eeyore was one better at 9-7. The grand totals for the year are 164-92 (.641) for me and 160-96 (.625) for Eeyore. For those of you keeping score at home, last year I went 169-87 (.660) while Eeyore was 168-88 (.656). The grand totals for the five years we've been picking the games are 806-457-1 (.638) for me and 756-492-1 (.605) for Eeyore. Note that Eeyore did not make picks in the very first weekend. That's why our total number of games are different. For the rest of the years, you can refer to this handy chart.

Actually if you discard Eeyore's brutal week #2 from this year's picks, Eeyore would have beaten me by four games.

Tom's Hardware on Linux Gaming

The folks at Tom's Hardware put together a pretty fair look at the current state of gaming on Linux. They cover both the unique challenges involved in developing for Linux (read: it's all about the Benjamins) with a special look at graphics card drivers.

Carmack's Blog

id's John Carmack has decided to ditch his .plan and use a blog instead. This should be the permanent link. Unfortunately, it's been thoroughly Slashdotted. You can view a mirror of it here. He talks about why he hasn't been updating his blog, the plans to release the Quake III Arena source code under the GPL, and some seriously deep thoughts on graphics. That last part might cause your eyebrows to catch fire.

NFL Week #17 Picks

Sadly another NFL regular season comes to a close. Equally sadly, my Lions will once again be watching the playoffs on T.V. Normally I could look forward to cranking up my Red Wings viewing, but it appears that the NHL and NHLPA are insisting on playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded revolver. Oh well. Here are my final picks for the season: Jets, Patriots, Bengals, Vikings, Panthers, Ravens, Texans, Bills, Packers, Lions, Seahawks, Bucs, Chiefs, Broncos, Jaguars, Giants. Some of these games are very hard to pick since the best teams are resting players for the playoffs. Others are hard to pick because the games will just be awful.

The Master comments: Eeyore's picks: Ravens, Steelers, Panthers, Packers, Texans, Patriots, Eagles, Jets, Titans, Vikings, Cardinals, Seahawks, Raiders, Broncos, Chargers, Cowboys.

At least my Lions made a smart move by getting big ol' Shaun Rogers signed to a huge contract before he became a free agent. Next year, the Lions are officially out of excuses. They must make the playoffs.

Pondering the Imponderable

Can I just say that this is the first post I've made in 2005?

Oh, and before I forget: Go Blue!
