id CEO Todd Hollenshead updated his .plan with the news that we've all been waiting for. DOOM3 has finally gone gold! The official street date is August 5, but it should be in stores on August 3. w00t! Let the violence commence!

While you're waiting, here's the first review that I've seen for it. Warning: there are some minor spoilers. Thanks to HardOCP for that link.

Pentium History

I just finished reading The Pentium: An Architectural History of the World's Most Famous Desktop Processor, an extremely fascinating technical article on the history of the Pentium Processor. There's more coming, but this is a great start.

Testing Cedega

I recently downloaded the Slackware package of Cedega, the program formerly known as WineX. The only game I've tried with it so far is Jedi Academy. I was able to install the program without running into the disc-swapping problem I had with WineX 3. The game also seems to run quite a bit faster. I'm not sure why that is. Cedega has better support for DirectX 9 (including pixel and vertex shaders) and a better ALSA sound driver. It may be one of those two things. At any rate, about all I can say is so far, so good.

Bleh

I wish things were a bit more exciting in the gaming world right now, but until Doom 3 is finally done, there hasn't been much to say. The rumors are flying thick about an August release, but until I see a .plan update, I'm not believing a word of it. I just hope my machine has enough juice to run D3.

I've been doing a lot of work with MySQL lately. Integrating MySQL with Borld Delphi has been a real *ahem* treat. This was the first time I ever needed to use the OPTIONS= field in an ADO connection. It would be nice if this stuff was DOCUMENTED, but hey, you get what you pay for, right? I also hate the whole back-tick to quote field names, instead of a single quote like every other bloody SQL database on the planet. Roar.
