Burning Issues with Linux 2.4.x

I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't another culprit for the high-speed CD burning problems I've been having. If what I'm reading is correct, the ATAPI drivers for Linux don't properly support DMA transfers for CD burners. I watched top when I was burning a disc. Once the transfer rate got around 40x, my CPU usage on my Athlon XP 1800+ was around 92%. The 2.6 kernel is supposed to fix this, but I'm not sure I want to wade into those waters just yet. The good news is that I got the burner working without the ide-scsi kludge. We'll see what I decide to do from here.

Win98/SE/ME Get Stay of Execution

ZDNet is reporting that Microsoft will now support Windows 98, 98SE, and ME through June 30, 2006. Those operating systems were destined to become unsupported on Friday. This is good news for an awful lot of people. It also means that I don't have to worry about migrating my kids' games and such to Linux just yet. Thanks Slashdot.
