Color Mars Pics -- 11:31 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Spirit has sent back its first color pictures of the surface of Mars. You can see the pictures on NASA's Mars Rover page. Those shots really show just how big and dead that red rock is. It will be interesting to see if Spirit finds out that Mars was more interesting in the past.
Woof -- 1:49 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Well, I went to Best Buy (insert standard disclaimer here) and bought an Athena AS-P300 subwoofer. We really haven't run it full-out yet, because the instructions say to play nice with it for a while before it's broken in. It does add a rather nice "thump" without being muddy like cheaper ones. Athena is made by the same company that made my Mirage towers, so it should be good stuff. We've got thirty days to decide if the 300 is OK or if we need to bump up to the AS-P400. Judging from what it is like running at half volume, we shouldn't have any problems.

Pondering the Imponderable -- 8:33 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I finally got fed up with gunk building up on the rollers of my trackball mouse so I bought an optical Logitech Marble Mouse. I had no problems getting it to work in Linux, although I'm still working on the little scroll up/down buttons. At least I know that when this one comes time for cleaning, it will take a few seconds as opposed to a near eternity for my old one.
In more expensive news, I'm looking at the possibility of adding a subwoofer to my stereo system. Basically, I want the seismic charges in Episode II to sound more, well, seismic. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I'd also like to get something that will last. We'll see where this goes.
Bleh -- 6:46 am CST, Update by The Master
Being woken up at 6:05 am, and then being told your database is down, is not the way to start your morning. Graaagggghhhrrr.
And while I'm griping, what the heck is it about websites that require a browser running at at least 1024x768 resolution, and those whose e-commerce sections are so slow as to make a slug look like lightning. Frippin' EVERYTHING is annoying me today . . .
