NWN:HotU Release Date

Bioware has announced that the latest Neverwinter Nights expansion, Hordes of the Underdark, should hit store shelves on December 2. They also posted information on the Pale Master prestige class. I'm more interested in the Shifter personally.

Which Way Is Castle Anthrax?

Somebody with far too much time on his hands calculated the airspeed of an unladen swallow, ending years of speculation following the release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This shows the need for all of us to keep taking our prescription medication. Thanks go out to the president of my homebrew club for sending me this one.

Best . . . Mascot . . . Ever

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the best idea for a college mascot in the history of the universe: Dartmouth's Keggy the Keg. And parents wondered what Ivy League tuition buys them . . .

WineX 3.2 Released

Transgaming announced the release of WineX 3.2, the latest version of their gaming-oriented fork of WINE which allows Linux users to play Windows-native games. This version includes support for Max Payne 2, Warcraft III, and Homeworld 2 and improvements for games like Battlefield 1942 and Diablo II (I believe 3.2 fixes the annoying sound "popping" bug). Packages are available for subscribers in RPM, DEB, and TGZ formats.

UPDATE! I just installed WineX 3.2 and tested it with Diablo II. Thankfully, the sound problems are fixed. The speeches from the various characters no longer sound like Edison-era recordings. Note: that never stopped me from playing, but it is very nice to get that fixed.

LG Update

I finally called LG back today (I figured that if they hadn't called me back since Friday, they weren't going to) to see what they would do about my recently deceased GCC-4480B CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. I thought they were going to tell me to take a flying leap when I told them that a firmware upgrade botched up and that I mainly used it in Linux. Thankfully, since the firmware upgrade was necessary for proper function, they agreed to RMA it. They are sending me some labels to use to mail the drive back to them. Once they get it, they'll send me a new one. I'll let you know how long this drags on and if the new one actually works.

NFL Week #11 Final

Well, I had the good week that I desperately needed. I finished this week 12-4 (would've been 13-3 if I would switched my pick to the Packers, oh well), while Eeyore was 9-7. That springs me back into the lead year-to-date. I am 104-56 (.650) and Eeyore is 103-57 (.644). Pretty impressive for this late in the season, if I do say so myself.

My Fightin' Wombats won again this weekend to solidify my hold of first place. The last two weekends of the regular season are huge, though, because I play the second place team in my division (whom I lead by one game and have lost to twice--my only losses) and the first place team in the other division. Of course, none of this matters a lot of I lose in the first round of the playoffs.

Pondering the Imponderable

I forgot to mention this last week. The comic strip FoxTrot is well known for its geek-oriented jokes, but this one from last Thursday pretty much takes the cake. I wonder how many average comics readers even had a clue what this was about.

In an unrelated story, this fortune came up when I opened up a console in Linux this morning: "There is nothing wrong with Southern California that a rise in the ocean level wouldn't cure." Amen to that.

J.t.Qbe comments: Wow! That's getting pretty esoteric for the daily comics. It's nice to see comics for the rest of us.

Somewhat less obscure but no less funny is this one: every kid's dream!

A.T. Hun comments: I know that I would play "Zombie Disembowelment Arena III."

J.t.Qbe comments: Nah, "Zombie Disembowelment Tournament 2005" is coming soon. Wait for that instead. It'll come out right around the same time as "Duke Nukem Forever".
