HP to Indemnify Linux Customers

Well, it appears now that nobody is taking SCO's threats seriously. HP has announced that it will indemnify its Linux customers against and legal threats for using the OS. SCO, of course, claimed that this means that there is some possible liability. The reality, however, is that there is none. This is just a great PR move for HP. They appear content to stand on the sidelines and let IBM bleed SCO white. Thanks Linux Today.

Installing Jedi Academy in WineX 3.1

Jedi Academy is out and I bought it. My only concern was installing it in Linux using WineX. Thankfully, I was able to figure out how to do it with a minimum of fuss. How did I do it? Read my HOWTO and find out for yourself!

DOOM3 Preview

Gamespot posted a preview of DOOM3, based on seeing a single-player level. Gamespy chimes in as well. It's hard to say if it was hands-on or if one of the id guys was actually playing. They seemed suitably impressed. Yes, I'm really looking forward to this one.

Half-Life 2 Delayed

Shacknews got word that Half-Life 2 has been delayed. Here's the scoop from Valve's Doug Lombardi:

The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

This should surprise absolutely no one. The only question is, was the problem with the game itself or with the Steam roll-out (or both)?

NFL Week #3 Final

In the "a trained monkey could pick better than I" department, I was 7-7 this week whilst Eeyore was a far more respectable 10-4. Year-to-date that makes me 28-18 (.609) while she is 29-17 (.630). Yes, in the three seasons that we've been doing this, this is the first time she has been ahead of me year-to-date. I'm so ashamed.

The Master comments: Eeyore was going to go with the Dolphins too (it's actually crossed out on her notepad) but decided after the fact not to. Too bad :-)
