Diablo II 1.10 Patch Information

What's this? A Diablo II patch? You betcha! Blizzard has released some official information on the 1.10 patch for Diablo II: Lord of Destruction that has been rumored for a long time. Here's just a snip from a rather long list of changes:

Enhanced Skills - The skills of each player-character class have been thoroughly revised. On top of that, a new system of "synergies" has been added to each character's skill set. Allotting a point to certain skills will result in synergy bonuses to one or more of that character's corresponding skills. After the patch is released, visit The Arreat Summit for more details.

Hmmm. I may just have to dust off my Diablo discs and see how well it runs with WineX. Thanks Shacknews.

NV35 at E3

Everybody and their cocker spaniel seem to be linking to this brief news blurb that shows that NVIDIA would be unveiling its NV35 GPU next week, presumably at E3. It'll be interesting to see if they can pass ATI without the card sounding like a dustbuster.

Gone to meet its maker

This afternoon the Qbemobile officially moved into ex-carhood. We pulled out of the driveway to begin our 75-minute long drive to a conference and made it two whole blocks before we heard a loud squealing then a bang as a cloud of smoke came out of the engine. As I made a left into a parking lot I quickly discovered that our terminally-ill power steering system had expired. I managed to get us home without any problem except for a disappointed little boy.

So I rented a car for a few days from a sleazy rental agent and now get to spend lots of time dealing with sleazy used car salesmen. Woohoo. Well, it's long past time that we got another car, and at least we were close to home. R.I.P., Qbemobile.

A.T. Hun comments: Joined the bleedin' choir invisible, eh? I must say that we've been pretty happy with our Windstar, other than the gas mileage. My 103K-mile Achieva is still humming right along too. Everything would be great with it, if the mechanic could figure out what demons are possessing the air conditioning. Summer + black car + no A/C = bad news. Time to buy that Lamborghini!

MS in Hot Water?

News.com wonders aloud if Microsoft could get in trouble with the FTC over the latest exploit in Passport which allowed someone to reset a user's password simply by knowing their email address. The ability to reset passwords has since been removed. I ask one more time: are you going to trust all your data and personal information to this company?

I seriously doubt that the FTC would do anything about this. However, the damage has been done. It's just another example in a long list of black eyes that Microsoft has sustained because of the security (or, more accurately, the lack thereof) in Passport.

sCary's Half-Life 2 "Preview"

The NDAs have been lifted on Half-Life 2 information. I'll link to one preview, the one written by sCary over at Shacknews. This was a "hands-off" preview. On top of that, the preview build was from last September. This will definitely be a game to keep an eye on. Still, just the title "Half-Life 2" gives it a lot to live up to.
