CS:CZ Preview -- 4:14 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

sCary posted his preview of CounterStrike: Condition Zero. It looks like it will be interesting to CS fans, but beyond that the jury's still out. The thought of single-player CS is kind of appealing to me, although I've found multiplayer CS to be quite tedious. We'll see what Ritual does with this. You have to wonder how this will turn out, since it is using a VERY old engine and the game has been passed from Rogue to Gearbox to Ritual.

NFL Week #17, Season #3 Final -- 11:01 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

As we draw week #17 of the NFL season and season #3 of our picks to a close, I come out victorious 11-5 whilst Eeyore ended her late-season tear at 10-6. My record for the year is 162-93-1 (.633) while Eeyore finished 155-100-1 (.605). Here's a little table to show how we've done over these three years:

Note: Eeyore did not pick the first week's games in 2000. She has improved steadily. This year, I got the most wins ever and rebounded from last year's poor showing, although the first year was still my best on a percentage basis. Until next season . . .

A happy New Year's Eve to all of (both of?) our readers from The Haus staff. Be extra cautious tonight. If you are going to be drinking, bribe someone to be the designated driver. We don't need anyone to become a statistic.

Fixing Mandrake's Christmas Present -- 12:51 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Mandrake released updated versions of urpmi right before Christmas for versions 8.1, 8.2, and 9.0 of their Linux distribution. Upgrading renders urpmi and MandrakeUpdate unusable. Thanks guys! Here's how to fix it:

1. Log in as root
2. Run urpmi.removemedia -a
3. Fire up drakconf and go to Software Management-> Software Sources Manager-> Add
4. One by one, mount all the Mandrake CDs and enter the information under "Removable device" (I used "Installation #1, #2, and #3" for the names and just /mnt/cdrom for the path)
5. Click on "Mandrake Update" to update as usual

This should un-hose your urpmi so both it and MandrakeUpdate will function properly again. Thanks for the present, guys!

"Best" Junk Science of 2002 -- 1:34 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Fox News printed a list of the "Best" Junk Science of 2002. This list includes my personal favorite, the linking of fried foods and cancer. Of course, you'd have to eat 62.5 pounds per day. Needless to say, you'd die of a coronary before the cancer threat would hit. Ahh, FUD. Thanks Blue.

UT2K3 Clone Trooper Model -- 11:22 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

The UT2K3 Troopers team has released their clone trooper model for Unreal Tournament 2003! Check that bad-boy out! Even better, they are planning on releasing a public beta of their mod "soon." Very cool indeed. Now I just have to figure out how to install ut2mod files in Linux . . .

Neverwinter Nights Collector's Ed. Cheap -- 11:13 am CST, Update by J.t.Qbe

If you're a sucker for Collector's Editions and don't have Neverwinter Nights yet, here's your chance: Amazon has the Neverwinter Nights Collector's Edition for the bargain price of $39.99. I already have the game, but this deal is kind of tempting. Thanks, RPGDot.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank Just RPG for a copy of the game Wild Arms 3. They held a drawing a few weeks ago and, believe it or not, I actually won a copy. Just RPG is a nice, down to earth site with some good RPG reviews. Not only do they review new games but also some of the older ones which still deserve attention. Thanks guys!

New Version of Empire? -- 9:37 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Killer Bee Software (who?) got their hands on the source code to another one of J.t.'s and my favorite games, Empire. It appears that they are going to "update" it and rerelease it. This will be very interesting to follow. I just hope their computer design skills are better than their HTML skills. Thanks Blue's News.

J.t.Qbe comments: Hmmm, looks interesting. My first impression was "he's a wacko", but there just may be something to this. The real trick will be updating the game but keeping the fun factor. For those who are interested, check out the original Empire.
