NWN Witch's Wake Module

Bioware has released the first in a series of free official modules for Neverwinter Nights. This series is called Witch's Wake (formerly Witchwork). It is available through the auto-updater. There's even a DM's Guide and Player's Manual available, since this series changes some of the rules rather dramatically.

New NVIDIA Linux Drivers

NVIDIA has released new drivers for various systems running Linux. There is 1.0-4191 for 32bit Athlon/Pentium, 1.0-4050 for the Itanium, and 1.0-4180 for the Athlon 64. These drivers feature OpenGL 1.4, GLX 1.3, and CineFX support. I installed these using the tarballs and added gcc options for the Athlon XP as well as editing os-registry.c to add side band addressing. They give a nice speedup in UT2K3 over the previous drivers. Some have reported 2D slowdowns, but I certainly haven't noticed anything.

Bjorn3D also posted an article on NVIDIA's Linux support. With today's releases, the NVIDIA drivers share 95% of their code with their Windows counterparts. Future releases and development for Windows and Linux will occur together. I for one applaud NVIDIA for their dedication to Linux gamers.

Cube: An Open-Source FPS

LinuxWorld posted an article about Cube, an open-source first-person shooter. I downloaded it from the official site and tried it out. Don't expect Quake III or UT2K3 graphics. I'd say it falls somewhere between Quake I and II. Still it's fun, there are a lot of maps available for it, and it's open source with a Zlib license. Thanks Linux Today.

Pondering the Imponderable

There are big changes afoot at The Haus! The Master and I have been feverishly working on a new layout. The code will all be compliant with the XHTML 1.0 Strict specifications. The layout will dump tables in favor of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). I'm enjoying the firstfruits of our labors right now. Our news entry page has been converted to the new format. In time, the new layout will be unleashed on an unsuspecting world.

If you want to get a taste of what the new Haus will look like, check it out here. The news script is fully functional, but the rest of the content still needs to be converted. And yes, you will need a reasonably new browser to enjoy it (IE5+, Netscape 6+, Mozilla, Opera 6, Konqueror 3). I can't say what it will look like on older versions of IE. I know it will look horrible on Netscape 4.x. I'll explain why in a future Hun-Speak column.

So the news may be slow, but that doesn't mean that things aren't happening. Stay tuned to this very page for the latest!

The Master comments: I have gotten the history page converted to the new format today as well. I decided to run this one live since it is so much more readable now.
