The True Cost of Windows

The Financial Times reports that Microsoft makes an 85% profit on Windows according to the company's 10-Q SEC filing. It reports that their client division which markets Windows and (presumably) Office made $2.48 billion on revenue of $2.89 billion, implying an 85% markup. I'm not against anyone making money and I realize they need to make up the money that the XBox group and others are hemorrhaging. Just remember that the next time you upgrade Windows. Thanks Slashdot.

In case you want to see the 10-Q filing in its entirity, here it is. Warning, the brains of non-accountants may cave in.

The Master comments: Okay, that's an insane amount of profit on a product in today's day and age. I wonder if anyone is going to start beating on Micro$oft's profit margin as hard as the customers at the company I work for beat on ours. Nah, I doubt it. M$'ll just mark it higher and laugh at 'em.

J.t.Qbe comments: That'd be about typical for Microsoft. "You don't like what we're doing? Well, we'll do it more!" Wait a minute, are we talking about Microsoft or the Democrats?

NFL Week #11 So Far

I was thisclose to changing my pick from the Jets to the Lions. Good thing I didn't. Of course, I was also going to pick the Vikings. Go fig. Anyway, assuming the Raiders hold on to win, I am 10-5 and Eeyore is 9-6. Not bad considering how miserable things looked early in the day.

NFL Week #11 Picks

I'll keep it short, sweet, and to the point. Here are my picks for this week's NFL schedule: Colts, Saints, Bills, Steelers, Giants, Jaguars, Eagles, Browns, Packers, 49ers, Bucs, Jets, Broncos, Dolphins, Raiders, Rams. And here are Eeyore's picks since they were mailed to me in case she went into labor (as far as I know, she hasn't): Eagles, Browns, Packers, Saints, Redskins, Bills, Colts, Jaguars, Steelers, 49ers, Bucs, Dolphins, Broncos, Jets, Raiders, Rams. Only one different? Yikes!
