Bleh

Was reading today's Shark Tank and saw a blurb on the old IBM 1403 printer. Made me search around the internet because I was curious about the comment "6 pages/second" as a quoted print speed for a 1950s printer. Came across this history article on the 1403 that just cracked me up. Good reading for the classic computer geek crowd.

KDE 3.1 Sneak Peek

The KDE team has posted a brief preview of the changes that are in store for the 3.1 release of their popular Linux desktop. KDE has been my desktop of choice in Linux for the past couple of years now. With every revision, it just gets better. I'll be very interested to see how Kroupware turns out. The only think I'd like to see that I don't get in 3.0.3 is an addressbook that actually works and a better way to sync my Visor (including AvantGo support). For now, I'm happy to use Mozilla for mail and JPilot for my PDA. Thanks Slashdot.

NWN 1.26 Patch Released

In this "this time for sure!" category, Bioware has released the 1.26 patch for Neverwinter Nights. It sounds like this patch mainly fixes things that were broken in the 1.25 patch :). Click here for all the gory details.

New Need for Speed Demo

A demo has been released for Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit II. It weighs in at just over 92M. Blue provided links to mirrors on FileShack, FilePlanet, and 3D Gamers. As you might expect, the mirrors are still tied up. Once the mirrors cool off, I'm going to try to snag this one. I haven't played a good racing game in a while.

The Master comments: I played the original Need for Speed on my old P90 a long time ago. Decent game, but I hate racing against perfect computer drivers. Nothing more annoying than watching the computer shoot the tight turn at full speed every time and never being able to duplicate the feat myself :-/ I'm sure Eeyore will enjoy a fresh racing game.

A.T. Hun comments: The game is pretty fun. Even with all the options cranked, it runs very smoothly on my system at 1024x768. Still, steering with my Gamepad or the keyboard really doesn't do the game justice. Of course, I could learn not to floor it and oversteer all the time . . .
