This Is an Ex-Memory System

According to EBN, Intel is dropping RAMBUS altogether from its future products in favor of DDR SDRAM. That really breaks my heart. Not. It's always nice to see a company that tries to hold an entire industry hostage get hoisted on its own petard. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of folks. Thanks HardOCP.

NVIDIA 1.0-3123 Linux Drivers Released

NVIDIA has released their 1.0-3123 drivers for XFree86 4.x in Linux. The list of changes is somewhat slim. I've got them installed, so I'll let you know if they are any better than the 2960s. Thanks Linux Games.

UPDATE! 9/12 Performance is about the same on my system. I'm waiting to see if these drivers fix a problem I had with the 2960s where occasionally the screen would not properly switch to text mode after I exited X. So far, so good.

Enough Already!

OK, I appreciate that it's been a year now since 9/11, but most of the media are beating it to death. It seems like the goal of most of the things on the radio and T.V. are to get us all desperately sad. I fear that the memory of those lost is being exploited or at least misused. It's good to remember. There's nothing wrong with mourning. But this is ridiculous. If all we do a year later is cry, then we've missed the point entirely. What we should be celebrating is that we are the United States of America. Even horrific, cowardly acts like those committed against every American last year have not weakened us or destroyed us. Let what has happened to the Taliban serve as a warning to anyone else who gives sanctuary to bin Laden and his roving band of idiots. You're next.

That's the last I'm going to say about this. I promise. I plan on spending the evening ignoring what is on T.V. and instead playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Every time I take down a Nazi, I plan on yelling, "Take that, Osama!" at the top of my lungs. To each their catharsis.

J.t.Qbe comments: What? The media exploiting something? What an unusual concept.

While I certainly feel for those who lost loved ones a year ago, I think that the rest of us serve far better by moving on, by remembering, by doing a better job at being our "brother's keeper". And my own catharsis will be Baldur's Gate and a nice Paulaner Salvator.

Neverwinter Nights 1.24 Patch Released

I'm not sure how I missed this on Monday, but Bioware has released the 1.24 patch for Neverwinter Nights. It looks like the patch mainly fixes a bunch of crashing bugs.

Linux Binaries in the UT2K3 Box?

Epic's Mark Rein made this post on the Infogrames forums. He explained why Epic even bothered with Linux for Unreal Tournament 2003 (apparently some Windows users were griping that it was slowing development) and the possibility that the Linux binaries could be included on the UT2K3 CD. He also announced that Ryan C. "icculus" Gordon is doing the port. Thanks Linux Games.

September 11

Today is the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I've been trying to figure out what I wanted to say about today, and to write something about today. But I just can't find the words. I hope A.T. shows up later and does a better job than I can.

In rememberance of those who died . . .

A.T. Hun comments: I was listening to the radio as I took my son to school today. On the way there, I listened to a Top-40/80s station. I was rather annoyed that some flighty D.J. was telling me over and over again how I should feel today. On the way back I listened to the Imus in the Morning show. They were replaying some clips from the show as the attacks occurred. It was very moving. I hope we don't just look at today as a day to feel sad. I pray that we use the memorials today to strengthen our resolve not just to fight terrorism, but to obliterate it. As always, Mitch Albom puts it more eloquently than I could.

Attack of the Clones in IMAX

CNN is reporting that Star Wars Episode II will soon be available for viewing on 70 IMAX screens. I don't know where the nearest IMAX theatre is, but I'd going out of my way to see Attack of the Clones again in Great Big Wanking Huge-o-scope. Thanks Slashdot.

UT2K3 Demo This Week

Hopefully, anyway. Epic's Mark Rein made a post on the Infogrames forums indicating that the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo should be out this week. Having said that, he did make this follow-up post noting that problems might arise. Remember, he has set dates before that have long passed. Still, it looks good! Thanks Blue.
