New ZoneAlarm and NWN 1.21 -- 9:10 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I upgraded to the new version 3.125 of ZoneAlarm today. Unfortunately I discovered that it caused Neverwinter Nights to GPF. So I downloaded the manual 1.20 patch and tried it. This time it worked. I'm talking with someone from Infogrames tech support about it, but the problem seems to be related to the SecuROM copy protection in the game. That's caused a number of users to have problems. So if you like Neverwinter Nights and use ZoneAlarm, don't upgrade one or the other until the situation is addressed.BattleTech for PCs -- 3:13 pm CST, Update by The Master
I've been monitoring a couple of projects that are attempting to bring the BattleTech tabletop game to the PC. This has been tried before, and all the projects that were done in the past have fallen to the wayside. These new ones look very promising, and one of them is open source. Check them out:- MegaMek is a Java-based version of the game, was tested under Win32 and MacOS, and looks VERY pretty. This one is open-source, so if you know Java and BT, give'em a hand!
- MechWar3025 is a DOS-based BT game system, includes support for a pile of different units, and looks quite nice as well. There is a Win32 version, but he isn't keeping it up to date, so those of us who use Win2K, NT and Linux are up the creek.
New Q3A PR soon -- 2:09 pm CST, Update by The Master
Robert Duffy updated his .plan with word of a soon-to-be released point release patch for Q3A. Here's the word:Just a quick note on future releases for Quake 3 Arena. We will be releasing a new point release in the relatively near future which includes a handful of fixes and updates and also includes full Punk Buster integration to combat cheating. No firm date on when this will be out but it should not be too far off.

New Licq 1.2.0a -- 9:44 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Version 1.2.0a of my favorite ICQ clone for Linux, Licq, has been released. There are scads of bug fixes, preliminary support for the latest ICQ protocol (aka Oscar), and KDE3 support. Cool stuff. Check it out.
We're Not in Kansas Anymore . . . -- 8:06 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I just got a phone call from J.t.Qbe. He's going to be offline for a while. His house was damaged by a nearby tornado, relocating his roof to the front yard. Literally one minute before the twister hit, they went downstairs with their boys. Otherwise they all would have been upstairs at the time. Naturally, there was some wind and water damage to their possessions, but everyone is fine. As he put it, "Thank heavens for renter's insurance." Some guardian angels are turning in their resignations today methinks. The Master comments: Thank heavens they're still alive. I'd say maybe the guardian angels did just fine, but I bet they need major relief now.
