BBS Reminiscing -- 12:11 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Salon is running an article waxing nostalgic about the days of the BBS. Ahh memories. Chatting at 300 baud on my VIC-20. I was even a sysop for a while for a BBS run by a local Mom-and-Pop computer shop. I even attended real live meetings with some of my fellow sysops. It was a good time. J.t. and I wasted a lot of time playing Tradewars too :) It's a nice stroll down memory lane. Thanks Slashdot.

J.t.Qbe comments: Those were the days, weren't they? The world at 1200 baud was a much different place. I was happy to have 3 or 4 local BBSs in western MI, and we were swamped with them in Milwaukee. I spent far too many hours online in those days when I should have been doing homework.

But the article was annoying. The guy really needs to learn how to write, and the meaningless, overused, overtrendy phrase "back in the day" should have died a long time ago. Ugh.

Carmack on DOOM III on Slashdot -- 9:17 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

id's John Carmack made a couple of posts on Slashdot regarding DOOM III. The first deals with some comments that have been misunderstood or misinterpreted about 3D hardware. The second talks about the game's high hardware requirements and that there will be a Linux binary (yesh!). Thanks Blue's News.

JKII Tools Release #2 -- 7:35 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Raven's James Monroe updated his .plan with news that the second version of the Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast editing tools have been released. Check the full .plan update for all the details and download locations.

SoF II Multiplayer Issues -- 12:09 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Raven's Bryan Dube made a whopping great update to his .plan with multiplayer fixes and additional content that will be in the upcoming patch for Soldier of Fortune II.

I installed the SoF II single player demo, but I can't get the violence lock off. Let's face facts, one of the main reasons to play SoF II is for the GHOUL stuff. Hopefully I can figure it out soon. If so, I'll post the answer here. And no, Kenn Hoekstra's .plan update from a couple of days ago didn't help.

UPDATE! I figured it out. You have to add +set lock_blood 0 to the commandline. After you add that, the lock icon will appear at the bottom of the screen in the options menu. Hit "enter" when prompted for a password.
