Trackers Hosed

Blue's News seems to be having some technical difficulties right now. Since Blue hosts Webdog, when his site goes down, our news and .plan trackers go down too. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Update 6:57 P.M. They're back. Whew. Was starting to get withdrawl symptoms or something . . .

RTCW Patch Release

Gray Matter has released a 1.03 patch for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The 8.0 mb release contains some patches for various SP/MP issues; adds a new map, punkbuster and mod support to the retail version of RTCW. Mirrors of the patch are as follows:Update! Robert Duffy updated his .plan indicating the version 1.3 Linux binaries have been released on the id FTP server.

Carmack .plan Update

John Carmack updated his .plan with word on a technical article reviewing a method for robust shadow volume rendering on nVidia's developer website. It's highly techy, but if you're like that, give it a read.

Gothic for Ten Bucks!

Yep, that's right: today (Friday) only you can get the RPG/action/adventure title Gothic for the bargain price of $9.99 plus shipping over at Amazon.

I really need another game like I need another hole in the head, but this one is too good to pass up. Especially since my wife had a $15 gift certificate from an order Amazon screwed up. With normal shipping, the game is free! Woo hoo!

AOL Beta with Gecko

AOL is testing a beta version of its software using Gecko as the rendering engine. Gecko is the renderer behind Mozilla and Netscape 6.x. This would really be sweet and finally convince web designers to follow the web standards instead of IE's proprietary mechanisms. Thanks Slashdot.

I'm no big fan of AOL, but sometimes the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Only a monolith like AOL could force the issue like this. Best of all, in my opinion Mozilla is superior to IE in most every way. Maybe then I can start writing some standards-complient advanced HTML instead of having to go the "lowest common demoninator" approach.

Morrowind Impressions

No, I wish I had a copy of Morrowind so I could give you my impressions. For now, you'll have to settle for Rich's views on Gone Gold. Scroll down a ways and you should see his long writeup about the review copy he received this week. I really hope this game turns out well (along with M&M IX). I spent many, many hours playing Daggerfall. . . .
