Pondering the Imponderable -- 12:32 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Last night was the first night that I've been really glad that I have a UPS. We had an ice storm. Along with it came a couple of decent-size power dropouts. UPSes are one of those things that 99% of the time you never think about. But that 1% of the time they are worth their weight in gold.

J.t.Qbe comments: We got your storm on Saturday afternoon: the sky got really dark and suddenly we had high wind gusts. Then the power went out at 1:30 pm. At 6 we finally packed up and went to a hotel; around the time we got there, the power came back on. Oh well--better safe than sorry!

JKII Stormtrooper Model for Q3A -- 12:02 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

LucasArts and Raven have teamed up to release a Stormtrooper model for Quake III Arena. The model, skins, and sounds are right from the forthcoming Jedi Knight II. Pretty slick. Thanks Blue.

Jaquays Leaves id -- 6:34 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Paul Jaquays updated his .plan to announce that today is his last day at id Software. He has accepted a position at Ensemble Studios. Apparently making first-person shooters has burned him out. Best of luck to Paul in his future endeavors!

J.t.Qbe comments: Heh--PLAYING first-person shooters has burned me out. Even cool stuff like "No One Lives Forever", "Deus Ex", and (heaven forbid) "Voyager: Elite Force" leaves me cold. I suppose I'm not too surprised about this news--after all, Jaquays' background is in RPG design--pen and paper RPGs, I mean (anyone else old enough to remember that?).

Star Wars Guitars -- 8:54 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Guitar manufacturer Fernandes has teamed up with LucasFilm to design Star Wars-themed guitars. The perfect gift for the Star Wars fan who has everything. Or something. The Retrorocket ones are interesting, but they also list at $1300. What they REALLY need is a guitar in the shape of a B-Wing. Thanks Slashdot.
