Custom Q3:TA Maps -- 10:17 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I found a couple of sweet new Quake III: Team Arena maps on Hal-9000's website. I snagged Revenge of the Vortex (HALTACTF10_V2) and Chill Factor (HALTERRA1). Both are quite nice. Revenge of the Vortex is a tribute to id's Vortex Portal map in Q3:TA (one of my personal favorites) and Chill Factor is a cross between the ice and sand terrain maps in Q3:TA. Check them out!Wireless Tools -- 9:58 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Maybe no one will think this is cool besides me, but hey, it's my website. I snagged Jean Tourrilhes wireless extensions and tools for Linux. They are a couple of handy little utilities that tells you everything you ever cared to know about your wireless LAN setup and adjust the settings on the fly. I just had to uncomment the line in the Makefile to use the glib 2.2 headers and comment out the line to use 2.1 and they compiled like a charm. Highly recommended for Linux wireless folks.Friday, May 11, 2001
New Blue Shift Trailer -- 9:49 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
A second trailer for Half-Life: Blue Shift is available on Gamespot. It shows about 40 seconds of gameplay from Gearbox's new advancement of the Half-Life storyline. Thanks Blue's News.Team Haus Scores -- 2:40 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
If you've looked at the Team Haus stats page lately, you've noticed that team scores still aren't right. Yesterday post was made on the United Devices forums indicating that the situation is still being worked on. So, Team Haus members, keep plugging away at those packets. The goal is really to find a cure for cancer anyway, not merely racking up team points. For more information on Team Haus' fight against cancer, check our Team Haus page.It also appears that we shouldn't hold our collective breaths for a Mac or Linux client any time soon. Having said that, some people have reported running it successfully via WINE. I don't know if I have the stomach to try to get that to work.
Tribes 2 Unpatch -- 9:28 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Tribal War reports that the Tribes 2 auto-update system has a "reverse" patch that takes the game back to version 22460 after a number of particularly nasty bugs were found in the latest patch. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Tribes 2 delayed a while so that precisely this sort of thing wouldn't happen?Bleh -- 8:35 am CST, Update by The Master
Welp, look at that-I posted a news story this morning :-)A.T. Hun comments: GASP!
I've been pretty quiet on here lately, mainly due to Real LifeTM, but I'm going to try to get back into the swing of things here. My post today is driven by a Yahoo! article, entitled Report: Bush Would Win Recount of Disputed Ballots. Now, I didn't vote for Mr. Bush, but, honestly, I'm not sure either man was right for the job. However, I think it might be time for the country to let this one go. I mean, really. I don't think there's ANY way ANYONE will ever find out who won in Florida-I wouldn't believe either side if they said they won. There. I've said my piece. I'm going to go write some code now.
Is Code Free Speech? -- 8:30 am CST, Update by The Master
A panel of appeals court judges has submitted 11 questions to both sides of the current Hollywood vs. Eric Corley (2600). This could be good or bad news, depending on which side of the law these judges fall on. If they're upholders of the First Amendment, we might see the DMCA take a hit from the court. Now, while we here at the Haus are not supporters of the whole "free to copy everything I want" movement, the DMCA is a bit too harsh for my tastes. We'll have to watch this one closely and see how it turns out.
