Congratulations, Dada Hun

Congratulations and best wishes to A.T. Hun and family on the birth of their new baby! You're getting closer and closer to that soccer team of your own!

A.T. Hun comments: Hehe, we're getting there. Childbirth is an amazing thing and children are amazing blessings. 'Nuff said.

EAX Effects for UT CTF

Creative Labs has finally made an addition to their enhanced EAX effects for Unreal Tournament. This time they enhance the CTF levels. These effects are very cool and highly recommended if you have an EAX-compatible sound card. Thanks Blue.

Anti-Cancer Bashing

One of the Slashdot team has seen fit to bash the whole anti-cancer computing effort The Haus has become a part of. I won't bother to link to it since it is so nonsensical, trite, and ill-researched it makes me sick. If you really want to read it, it's easy to find on their site. I am thankful that the majority of the posters have taken him to task for it.

Yes, God forbid we support a program to fight cancer because the company with the technology might also want to make a profit in other similar ventures. Cripes. Maybe there is some truth to the M$ ramblings. Maybe some of them are bona fide communists.

J.t.Qbe comments: Hmmm, imagine that: idiotic comments from a Slashdot staffer! That's almost as rare as idiotic comments from a Slashdot poster! They need to grow up and visit the real world (I grew up near Holland, MI, location of Slashdot headquarters, and that is definitely not the real world.) A cure for cancer will cost a small fortune in R&D, if one is ever found at all. Whoever develops it will want to recoup those costs and will deserve to do so. That's the way the world works. The end result would be worth it, and it would also be cool to tell the grandkids that you helped find the cure. It's a huge project, and an important one.

SoF2 Details

Soldier of Fortune Center snagged the details from the new PC Gamer about Soldier of Fortune 2. The game will be based on the Quake III Arena engine. According to the article, the game will not ship with multiplayer capabilities, although there are rumors that that might actually not be the case. Thanks Blue.

Team Haus

The Master and I have formed a team, appropriately named Team Haus, for the anti-cancer fight (story). Want to help The Haus fight cancer? Visit http://www.thehaus.net/cancer.shtml to find out how!

UPDATE! If you have problems with the agent crashing the first time you run it, just rerun the agent and reenter the information. Everything should work fine. Give it a bit of time, though. Their servers are getting hammered.

CPU Cycles Vs. Cancer

According to this Register article, the University of Oxford in conjunction with several American companies and charities is starting a SETI@home-like project. This project will use your computer's idle CPU power to help test new anti-cancer drugs. Check out their website for more details. I'd rather use my CPU to fight cancer than to get E.T. to phone home any day.

As a matter of fact, I'm downloading the program right now. Two people close to me passed away from leukemia within the past couple of weeks. Maybe my computer can help extend somebody else's life.

The Master comments: The first truly useful globally run background processing application. I'll have to pull that one down tonight myself.
