Bleh -- 9:48 pm CST, Update by The Master

Finally got the family through cold and stomach flu, and guess what? It looks like I'm coming down with it now. I expect to be lying on my deathbed for the next two days or so. Goodie.

In this vein-where does a company get off charging $6 for a 1 liter bottle of kids sport drink. I won't name it-since that would probably get me in trouble, but I'm sure you can guess it's name anyway. Salted kiddie drink is NOT worth $6, no matter what the excuse--that excuse is gross profit--and since it's our KIDS we're talking about here, they can charge any damn thing they want. And we pay it. We did-5 times.

It appears that we aren't getting any smarter. Or, at least, Compaq users aren't.

The Master comments: Hehe-this doesn't shock me at all. I go around in circles with exactly these kinds of questions all the time. The drawback of being work, family, and other tech support . . .

Python Ported to PalmOS -- 10:45 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Oh, the alliteration! Some folks have successfully ported the Python programming language to the PalmOS. The port is called Pippy. The only problem I can see with this is that it requires PalmOS 3.5 or higher, which rules out my Visor Deluxe. However, their README indicates that they are working on fixing a GUI bug that prevents Pippy from running on PalmOS 3.0. Thanks Slashdot.

Hexen 2 Source and SoF Patch -- 7:45 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Raven's Rick Johnson updated his .plan with news of the impending new release of the Hexen 2 source code, the status of the Soldier of Fortune patch, and his thoughts on the preview of the Doom3 engine. Here's a snip:

I'm putting together a new release of the Hexen2 source. This is mainly to add the the original Hexen2 source code. Please let me know if there are any additional sources you would like to see (specifically tools source that I might have not included in any previous public releases).

SoF Patch is in a weird state of limbo, mainly because of the demise of WON / FlipSide, MPlayer, Global Rankings, and all sorts of stuff. We've got one thing ready, but it is out of my hands at this point. Once we do release the patch, I will put out an update to the game source code.

Pondering the Imponderable -- 2:40 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

In case you didn't notice, I added a mostly worthless bit o' Javascript to the site that displays a random tagline next to our logo on the top of every page. There are seven taglines in rotation right now. Expect that number to increase over time. Better (or at least weirder) living through technology!

Updated: My AvantGo Channels -- 2:27 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Wouldn't you know it? One day after I post my article on my favorite AvantGo channels, ZDNet combines all their channels into one. I also discovered that the Jeopardy channel didn't amuse me very long. Thus, I have updated my My AvantGo Channels article to reflect those changes. Hopefully this will be the final revision for a while.
