Pondering the Imponderable

My dad, my cousin, and I went to Comerica Park in Detroit today. What an incredible facility! My advice: buy the cheapest tickets you can get and just walk around the place. There literally isn't a bad seat in the house. We didn't enjoy the rush-hour traffic coming back, but we did relish the Tigers' victory, bringing them to the .500 mark at 63-63. Normally that wouldn't be impressive, but it is when a team starts a season 9-23.

Whilst in my former hometown yesterday, I bought myself a guitar: a used Charvel Telecaster-style electric guitar for $200. I plan on producing much cacophany :)

ToddH on Q3A for PS2

id CEO Todd Hollenshead updated his .plan with all the info he can give out on the PS2 port of Quake III Arena.
It's being done by EA and does involve some of their London employees (Bullfrog), but other people from other teams are involved as well. The release date is "when it's done", but everyone knew that already ;-) It's still very early in the development process so we are still exploring what we can add to the PS2 version and what it's limitations will be. Our goal with the game will be to make a fun game for PS2 players, but not necessarily mirror what is available on the DC or PC. As on all ports of our games, we will oversee the development process.

Slew of Nintendo game system news

GameSpot has a slew of articles online of Nintendo's announcement of their Game Cube system (originally code-named dolphin) and the Game Boy Advance 32-bit portable game system. Check it if you're into the console scene.

BTW: That is one ugly game controller they've designed. Blech.

Bleh

Couple things.
  1. Today is the 4th anniversary of the release of TeamFortress for Quake 1. Wow. This is rather awe-inspiring.
  2. It appears we're still having difficulties as our new DNS entries VERY SLOWLY propagate over the internet. Hopefully this problem will go away before I die-but right now I doubt it. If anyone running ISPs is reading this, PLEASE fix your DNS servers if you don't follow the recommended update times for DNS. This kind of crud really sucks.

J views eBay-has breakdown

Our roving news reporter J was spending some time yesterday snooping the net, and forwarded this rant for the audience:
Okay...wanna see how insane the world is? Go to eBay. Type 'Everquest' into the search field. Take a look at the auctions. Going on a tip from a recovering Evercrack addict, I did this tonight. Lo and behold, an account was going for $1125, with 15 bids so far, and it wasn't over yet!

What the hell is wrong with this picture? You can do the same for Ultima Online. I saw a castle that had been sold for $700!!! Who are these people? Hell, if they're gonna shell out this kinda dough for *fantasy* items, then they can afford to pay my school bills!

To all you Eversmack and Ultima Crack Online addicts: get help! This is unhealthy! Read a book, fercryinoutloud!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Web site.
Heh-that's why I don't do online virtual worlds-I remember waaaayyy too many people in college losing their lives to that stuff.
