Havin' A Good Time Playing Arena

Cool! I finally found instructions for setting up and playing Arena under Win95. No more pesky reboots. What a classy game! Nothing like adventuring in the world of Tamriel. . .

Oh, wait. It isn't that Arena you're waiting for, A.T.? This one is the Bethesda game Arena, originally released in 1994 (or thereabouts). I picked up a copy for $2.50 at a software clearance last year, and it's still pretty impressive! First-person roleplaying adventure in a world of magic, mystery, and fun. Sure, Daggerfall was bigger and Morrowind will be flashier, but it's fun to see the father of 'em all. . .

RA3 Released!

Yep, it's that time kids! Rocket Arena 3 for Quake III Arena has finally been released! Here's a list of mirrors: Win32 Client Files (60M), Win32 and Linux Server Files (0.5M), and Linux Client Files (60M). Whatcha waiting for? Get downloading!

UPDATE! Right now it seems like all the mirror sites are getting the living daylights beaten out of them. Hopefully I'll find a mirror that will work soon . . .

UPDATE 11:45 P.M. 2.5 hours later, I'm actually able to download RA3 at a decent clip. And no, I have no intention of staying up until 3:15 A.M. to try it out.

RA3 Soundtrack Released

The Rocket Arena 3 for Quake III Arena mod team has released the RA3 soundtrack so you can start warming up your modems now in advance of the mod's release tonight a 6 P.M. U.S. Pacific time. A full list of mirrors can be found here. It's a 78.3M download, so if we start now, we modemers might be done in time :) Thanks sCary.

Sanity Demo Tuesdayish

Jason Hall, Monolith CEO (when he's not terrorizing the populace as the King of teh Monstars), made a whopping great .plan update. In it he attempts to explain just what the heck Sanity is and what the demo will reveal to us. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me right now, so I'll have to download it and see. I want to see how LithTech 2.0 looks anyway.

On a moderately related note, I saw a bit of a Magic: The Gathering tournament on ESPN2 the other day. There was a play-by-play guy and a color commentator just as if a) this was an actual sport and b) anyone cared. Man, if there's that little to broadcast, at least replay some German Bundesliga or English Premier League soccer matches. I'd even rather watch the X-Games *shudder* than a Magic: The Gathering tournament. Actually, I'd rather undergo vivisection via roto-rooter than watch a Magic: The Gathering tournament.

Oh and by the way, I put the "King of teh Monstars" comment in there before I read the same thing on Blue's News. That's how clever I am. If you haven't been following JeffK's SMARTY MAN GAEM DESIGNEAR "SURVIROR", you've really been missing . . . something.

RA3 Screenshots

If you just can't wait for the mod to be released tomorrow, there are a bunch of new screenshots of the Rocket Arena 3 mod for Quake III Arena posted at the official RA3 site. I know that I can't wait for it to be released. Thanks, um, everybody.

Bleh

Wow-I managed to get back online again. It's been a long week folks-if you are REALLY wondering why you haven't see me online or updating here much lately, I've been tied up in two huge projects at work that have been eating major time, plus my current Deus Ex addition is also a mitigating factor :-)

One tip for all you sysadmins in the crowd: setting up Microsoft VPN is NOT as simple as it seems. Especially if your network isn't dynamically allocated via DHCP. Ye Gods but I put in a lot of time arguing with Windows to get Exchange and terminal emulation working over VPN. Bleech. Next time I'm not volunteering for the nightime death march-I'd rather light myself on fire than argue with Microsoft VPN ever again.
