Wolfie Demo Tomorrow?

According to IGN, rumors are floating about that a demo for Return to Castle Wolfenstein will be released tomorrow. That'd be a good thing. One warning: if you click on that link and don't allow their site to set a cookie, you will be stuck viewing an almost lethally stupid ad for their print version eternally. Thanks Blue.

UPDATE! Blue got confirmation from Activision that the demo will indeed be released at 2:00 P.M. U.S. Eastern time tomorrow. No word on if this will be Windows only or if they will have demos for Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Pondering the Imponderable

Dear Santa. Please give me a new Athlon XP system. While I'm dreaming, I'd like a pony too. Your pal, A.T.

The Master comments: Heh-for the first time in a long time, I'm quite satisfied with my PC hardware :-) I'd love an OS upgrade, but I'm torn between doing a dual boot with W2K or Linux, or installing XP (ick) or installing W2k AND linux on a new HD. Ack, like I have time for any of this crud.

YAMSH

That's "Yet Another Microsoft Security Hole". This one's a biggie, potentially affecting IE versions 5, 5.5 and 6, Outlook and Outlook Express, even Eudora. According to this Newsbytes article, the hole can allow a black hat to execute programs on your system without your knowledge. A patch is forthcoming, but Microsoft won't say when. Nasty. Linux or BSD, anyone?

A.T. Hun comments: OK, now I know that Netscape has had holes in it as well, but is it just me or are there tons more holes in IE than in any other browser? Of course, none offer tighter integration with Windows, so that opens the door to a lot of abuse that no other browser would be vulnerable too. You start sounding like a broken record, but is this the company you will trust to be the guardian of all your online information?

20 Years of Usenet on Google

Google Groups announced that they have archived 20 years of the Usenet dating back to May 12, 1981. Yours truly was just wrapping up seventh grade at the time. Included in the archive is Linus Torvalds' first comment on this pet project of his. Very cool stuff. Thanks Slashdot.

The Master comments: To echo AT, that is very cool stuff :-)

Serious Sam 2 Demo

Croteam has released a demo of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. It weighs in at a hefty 110.9M and is available from Gigex and FilePlanet. Thanks Blue
